Australia's first and second Dual Champions (Tracking) |
Prior to 1 January
2000 there was a requirement for a dog to have an obedience pass to enter
Tracking trials. This requirement was rescinded with the introduction of the
Tracking Champion title. As higher qualifications are obtained, the lower one is
no longer used on the dog's name. A dog must be at least six months of age and
have passed a Preliminary Tracking qualification test to be eligible to
enter a Tracking trial.
From 2009 the Track
and Search titles (TSD & TSDX) were introduced. These titles provide the opportunity for the
dog to continue working past Tracking Champion and to potentially train and
trial thus further enhancing their skills by completing a series of graded tests
which replicate real life scenarios. These tests are open only to dogs who have
achieved the title of Tracking Champion.

Tracking Champion |
|
To achieve the title of Tracking Champion -
written as Ch (T) before the dog's name - the dog must complete seven
different tracking tests (the first three achieving Tracking Dog, the next
three Tracking Dog Excellent) with the seventh test over approximately 1200
meters and including:

at least 6
changes of direction (two of these greater than 90 degrees) |
|
|
at least two
articles to be indicated & tracklayer/finish article to be found |
|
|
the track, laid according to the judge's
direction, being crossed twice by one or two unknown persons
approximately 30 minutes after the original tracklayer has passed |
|
|
commencing a
minimum of 1.5 hours and no more than 3 hours after laying of track |
* Dual Ch indicates the dog
has a conformation championship title as well as a tracking champion
title. |

Tracking Dog Excellent |
|
To achieve the title of Tracking Dog
Excellent -
written as TDX after the dog's name - the dog must complete six different
tracking tests (the first three achieving the Tracking Dog title). The three
tests required for the Tracking Dog Excellent title range from 1000 meters
to approximately 1200 meters and include:

4 - 5 changes of direction (with one change
being greater than 90 degrees in the 6th test) |

from one article to be indicated &
tracklayer/finish article to be found to at least two
articles to be indicated &
tracklayer/finish article to be found |

twice by one or two unknown persons, approximately 30 minutes after
original tracklayer has passed |

minimum of 1 hour and no more than 2 hours after laying of track to
commencing 1 hour and no more than 3 hours after laying of track |
NB: The dog must qualify under at least two
different judges |

Tracking Dog |
|
To achieve the title of Tracking Dog -
written as TD after the dog's name - the dog must complete three tests. The
tests are conducted over tracks between 400 and 800 meter that include:

2 changes of direction (none greater than 90
degrees) |

|
at least one article to be indicated &
tracklayer/finish article to be found |
|
|
commencing a
minimum of 30 minutes and no more than 1 hour after laying of track |
NB: The dog must qualify under at least two
